Cookie Policy

Last updated: January 15, 2025

This Cookie Policy explains how GetAILearn, Inc. ("GetAILearn," "we," "our," or "us") uses cookies and similar technologies on our website and learning platform. This policy should be read alongside our Privacy Policy.

1. What Are Cookies?

Cookies are small text files placed on your device when you visit a website. They help websites function properly, remember your preferences, and collect analytics information. At GetAILearn, we primarily use browser localStorage (a client-side storage mechanism) rather than traditional cookies, for technical and privacy reasons explained below.

2. How GetAILearn Uses Storage Technologies

2.1 Essential localStorage (Always Active)

We use browser localStorage to store essential platform state that makes the site function correctly. This includes:

  • Your cookie consent preference (key: cookieConsent)
  • Session authentication tokens
  • Learning progress checkpoints (allows resuming where you left off)
  • Platform preference settings (display language, notification preferences)

These storage entries are necessary for platform operation and cannot be disabled without affecting functionality.

2.2 Analytics Cookies (Optional)

With your consent, we use analytics tools to understand how students interact with the platform. Analytics data is aggregated and anonymized. We use this information to: identify which content areas cause the most difficulty, optimize the adaptive algorithm with population-level learning data, improve course structure and navigation, and measure platform performance. You can decline analytics cookies through our cookie consent banner without affecting your ability to use the platform.

2.3 Functional Cookies (Optional)

Functional cookies remember your preferences across visits, such as your preferred learning pace settings, notification preferences, and accessibility settings. These can be disabled, but doing so means you may need to reset your preferences on each visit.

3. Why We Use localStorage Instead of Traditional Cookies

GetAILearn's platform primarily uses browser localStorage rather than HTTP cookies for client-side state management. This choice was made for technical and privacy reasons: localStorage values are not automatically sent to the server with every HTTP request (unlike cookies), reducing data transmission overhead; localStorage is not accessible to cross-domain scripts, reducing cross-site data exposure risk; and localStorage works consistently across all modern browsers and the file:// protocol used in some offline access scenarios.

4. Third-Party Technologies

Our platform may load resources from third-party services that set their own cookies or use similar technologies. These include:

  • Stripe (payment processing) — Stripe sets cookies related to payment security and fraud prevention
  • AWS CloudFront (content delivery) — CDN performance cookies
  • Intercom (customer support chat, if activated) — support session cookies

We do not control third-party cookies. Review the privacy policies of these services for details on their data practices.

5. Managing Your Cookie Preferences

5.1 Our Consent Banner

When you first visit GetAILearn, a cookie consent banner is displayed. You may accept all storage technologies or decline non-essential cookies. Your choice is saved to localStorage (key: cookieConsent) and applied immediately.

5.2 Browser Settings

You can control cookies through your browser settings. Most browsers allow you to: view and delete cookies and localStorage entries, block all cookies from specific sites, block third-party cookies, and clear all stored data. Note that clearing localStorage will reset your cookie consent preference, and you will be shown the consent banner again on your next visit.

5.3 Withdrawing Consent

To withdraw consent for non-essential cookies, clear the cookieConsent key from your browser's localStorage, or use our platform settings (Account > Privacy > Cookie Preferences). Consent withdrawal applies going forward and does not affect data already collected.

6. Data Retention

localStorage entries persist until manually cleared or until the browser's storage is cleared. Essential platform cookies expire with your session or within 24 hours. Analytics and functional preference storage is cleared when you log out or after 90 days of inactivity.

7. Updates to This Policy

We may update this Cookie Policy when we introduce new technologies or change our practices. Material changes will be communicated via email and platform notification.
